What is technical due diligence?
Technical due diligence is an independent review of a software product before money changes hands or a big decision is made: an investment round, an acquisition, a switch of development vendor, or a decision to rebuild. It answers four questions: does the technology do what the business claims, what can break, what will it cost to fix, and can the team keep it running.
Our version is a fixed-price, two-week technical audit for $3,500, led personally by Anton Lytvynov, the founder of Lytvynov Production and our fractional CTO.
Who orders a technical audit?
- Founders before a seed or Series A round, to find and fix what an investor's technical review would find.
- Investors and buyers who need an independent view of a product before they commit.
- Non-technical founders working with an agency or freelancers who want to know whether the code and the estimates are sound (see independent code review).
- Companies about to rebuild or modernise a product, who need to know what is worth keeping.
- New CTOs, managers or an interim CTO who inherit a system and need a fast, honest map of it.
What we review
| Area | What we check |
|---|---|
| Architecture | How the system is split, data flows, single points of failure, what limits growth |
| Code | Structure, readability, test coverage, dependency age, licence problems, duplicated or dead code |
| Security | Authentication, access control, secrets handling, personal data, known vulnerabilities in dependencies, backups |
| Infrastructure | Hosting, environments, deployment process, monitoring, logs, disaster recovery |
| Data | Database design, migrations, data quality, retention, GDPR basics |
| AI features | Model and provider choice, prompts, cost per request, personal data in prompts, evaluation |
| Team and process | Who knows what, documentation, code review, release frequency, vendor dependence |
| Ownership | Who owns the code, accounts, domains and credentials; what happens if the vendor leaves |
| Costs | Monthly running costs, licences, and the cost and time to fix each risk found |
What you get
- A written report with every finding ranked as critical, high, medium or low, with evidence and a recommended fix.
- A cost and time estimate for each fix, so the findings can go straight into a plan or a negotiation.
- A one-page summary in plain language for founders, investors or a board.
- A 60-minute review call to walk through the findings and answer questions.
How the two weeks go
| When | What happens |
|---|---|
| Before day 1 | 30-minute scoping call, NDA, read-only access to repositories, hosting and documentation |
| Week 1 | Architecture and code review, infrastructure and security checks, a walkthrough call with your technical lead or vendor |
| Week 2 | Data, costs, process and ownership; findings written up, ranked and estimated |
| Day 10 | Report delivered, review call, access revoked if you wish |
Price
The technical audit costs a fixed $3,500 for one product. The price does not grow with the number of findings. If the product consists of several separate systems that would not fit into two weeks, we say so on the scoping call and agree the scope in writing before you pay.
If you continue with Anton as your fractional CTO, the audit replaces most of the first month's assessment work, so nothing is done twice.
Independent review
The audit stands on its own and is not a way to sell development. The report is written for whoever does the work next: your team, your current vendor or another agency. If you later ask us to quote the fixes, we say so in writing, and you are free to get a second quote.
Who does the audit
