What is custom software development?
Custom software development is designing and building software for one company's specific needs, as opposed to buying a ready-made product that thousands of companies share. The result can be a product you sell to your own customers, an internal system your team works in every day, or a feature that connects existing tools in a way no vendor offers.
Lytvynov Production is a custom software development company founded in 2020 by Anton Lytvynov. We build web applications, internal systems, SaaS products, mobile apps and AI features for startups and B2B companies in the US, UK and EU. When is custom software the right choice?
Custom software is the right choice when the software itself is part of your advantage, when off-the-shelf tools force your team into workarounds, or when you need to own the data and the logic for the long term. It is the wrong choice when a known product already covers most of what you need.
Signs that custom software will pay back:
- Your team keeps the real process in spreadsheets and chats next to the tool you pay for.
- Several subscriptions are glued together with manual copying or fragile automations.
- Per-seat licenses for your whole team cost more every year than owning a system would.
- The software is what you sell, so its features and data model are your product.
- You need integrations with your own systems or local services that no vendor supports.
If none of these apply, buy an existing product and configure it. We say this in scoping calls too: a project that should not be built is the most expensive one.
How does a custom software development project work with us?
A custom software development project with us runs in short, visible steps: a written scope, a fixed quote, milestones with weekly demos, and a release your users can work with as early as possible.
- Scoping call and written scope (1 to 2 weeks): goals, users, roles, integrations and what the first release must do. You get a fixed quote split into milestones.
- Design: user flows and screens for the first release, agreed before development starts.
- Development in milestones: every week ends with a demo on a staging server; every milestone ends with software you can use.
- Testing and launch: automated tests on the critical paths, a test period with real users, monitoring and backups in place before launch.
- Support and growth: fixes, updates and new features on a monthly plan, or a dedicated development team for a long roadmap.

Which custom software have we built?

- Custom ERP for a US aircraft service company: six months of development on Symfony/PHP, React, SQL and Mercure, covering client and order management, aircraft service scheduling, staff shifts, warehouse inventory and compliance in one platform used by all staff.
- AI Resume Master: our own AI SaaS for resume writing, built in about three months, now at 50,000 monthly active users.
- Sports events calendar platform: a freemium product with B2B licensing for a UK sports tech company, with APIs, embeddable widgets and a parsing engine that unifies hundreds of external calendars.
- Kodcy: our own pet-sitting marketplace with iOS and Android apps, a real-time map of hosts and in-app chat, built in about three months.
How much does custom software development cost?
Custom software development cost depends on scope: the number of user roles and screens, integrations, data migration, mobile apps and AI features. Projects with us start from $10,000 (our minimum project size), and we give a fixed quote after a short scoping call; a typical US or UK agency quotes roughly 2.5 to 4 times more for the same scope.

- Which projects like ours have you shipped, and can we see them working?
- Who exactly will lead our project, and how senior are they?
- What is in the scope, what is out, and how are changes priced?
- Where do the code, hosting and credentials live during and after the project?
- What happens in the first two weeks, and what will we see at the end of them?
- How do you test, deploy and monitor the software after launch?
