We are one of the companies on this list; we explain the criteria we used so you can judge for yourself. Updated October 2026.

How do you choose an MCP server development company?

Choose an MCP server development company by checking three things: that it has built and run MCP servers beyond a demo, that it can explain how it handles OAuth, per-user permissions and write actions, and that it tests servers with the real assistants your customers use. The protocol itself is the easy part. The quality of a server shows in tool design, security and behavior after weeks of real use.

MCP is young. The protocol was introduced in late 2024, and few agencies have a dedicated MCP service yet. That makes public evidence more important than usual: a service page with a clear process, technical articles that go beyond definitions, and case studies. If you are still deciding whether you need a server at all, read what an MCP server is first. If you want to see what the build involves, our step-by-step MCP server guide walks through it.

What criteria did we use for this list?

We looked for companies with public, verifiable MCP work as of October 3, 2026, using each company's own website and its Clutch profile. No company paid to be included, and we did not rank by review scores, which change often and are hard to compare.

Criterion What we checked
MCP is visible in public material A dedicated MCP service page, or a technical article on building or securing MCP servers
Engineering, not only advice The company builds and integrates software, not only strategy
Wider AI work AI integration, agents or AI products listed as a service
Active in 2026 Live website and current AI content
International clients Work for US, UK or EU buyers
Transparent basics Location, team size band and minimum project size on Clutch, where listed

We marked the type of evidence for each firm, because a dedicated service page is a stronger signal than a single article. The order below groups firms with dedicated MCP service pages first; it is not a quality ranking.

What should you ask an MCP server development company?

Ask about the parts that only show up in production. Any capable firm can connect a demo server to Claude; the difference is in how it answers questions about permissions, write actions and testing.

  • Tool design. How do you decide which tools to expose, and how do you write descriptions so models choose correctly?
  • Authentication. How will our customers sign in? How are scopes, revocation and tenant isolation handled?
  • Write actions. Which actions will create drafts, which need confirmation, and which are excluded?
  • Prompt injection. What happens when a tool reads an email or document that contains instructions aimed at the model?
  • Testing. Which assistants will you test with, how many realistic requests, and will we get the results?
  • Operations. Where will the server run, what is logged, and who updates it when the protocol or SDKs change?
  • Ownership. Will the code, the tool specification and the test set be ours?

Agency, AI specialist or your own team?

The right choice depends on what else needs building. If the MCP server is one part of a larger AI program, such as agents across many internal systems, a larger company with broad AI and integration work fits. If you need one good server over an existing API, a small senior team is usually faster. If your developers have time and your API is clean, they can build it themselves with the official SDKs.

Situation Usually the best fit
MCP as part of a wider AI or agent program across many systems Larger engineering company
One MCP server over an existing SaaS API, clear scope Small or mid-size senior team
MCP plus a redesign of the product experience Product design and development agency
Internal tools for your own engineers, clean API, spare capacity Your own team with the official SDKs

If the bigger goal is an agent that runs whole workflows, also see our list of the best AI agent development companies; agents usually reach your systems through MCP servers too.

It builds servers that speak the Model Context Protocol, so AI assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or your own agents can search, read and act in your product. The work covers choosing and designing tools, connecting them to your existing API, OAuth sign-in and per-user permissions, safe write behavior, logging, hosting and testing with real AI clients.

It depends on the number of tools, the state of your API, your permission model and how many AI clients must be supported. Among the firms on this list, Clutch shows minimum project sizes from $10,000 to $25,000. With us, a focused first server for a product with a clean API usually fits into one AI Sprint: $10,000 fixed for 4 weeks.

For a product with a usable API, a first remote MCP server with a focused set of tools, OAuth and logging typically takes 2 to 6 weeks. Products without a usable API, with complex permissions or with many tools take longer, because the API layer or permission model has to be fixed first.

Yes, if they have time and your API is in good shape; the official SDKs make the protocol layer straightforward. Companies are hired mostly for the parts that take experience: tool design that models use correctly, OAuth for many clients, safe write tools, tenant isolation tests and testing across assistants. Our step-by-step guide shows what the work involves.

Yes. Lytvynov Production is a web, mobile and AI development company founded in 2020 in Dnipro, Ukraine. We build MCP servers for clients and run our own in production for our internal project board and site content system. We are an independent company, not an Anthropic or OpenAI partner, and we appear in this list as one of eight options.
